Web Hosting Transfer

At some point before the end of this month, The Self Preservation Society will be switching web hosting companies. This means the website, forums, and (members only) email service will suffer a small amount of disruption while we shift over.
Our game server is not changing host and won’t suffer any downtime. However, during the switch we might have to take the custom maps off rotation because there could be a short time when we’re unable to provide fast map downloads. We don’t know how long that period might be, but we have another domain we can test with before we shift the real website.
During our downtime, we’ll post status updates on our Steam Community page

New Maps Added

We’ve taken advantage of the Bank Holiday to spend a little time adding some more maps to the server. Three new maps join our collection: countryside objective map dod_campagne, clan-war favourite dod_railroad2_b2, and the wintery dod_sulz.
Ask a Society member to load them up when you’re on the server, then let us know what you think in our maps forum.

I have the pleasure of announcing that today sees the official launch of Fug and Oddball's new Day of Defeat server, Average @ Best! Taking a lighthearted bite of the DoD cherry, A@B will become the perfect partner to The Self Preservation Society by running 100% American weapons and a wide (and sometimes wacky) selection of custom & official maps

New Blood!

The beginning of this month has seen the Society’s biggest single recruitment haul yet, with us bagging no fewer than four new members from within our ever-growing community of regulars. Cannonfodder, –=BBB=– Jonny(GIMP), Bourne (aka –_–),and Oddball join the Self Pres to help us continue to give a swift kick in the pants to evil-doers everywhere. Welcome!

A Self-Preserving Xmas To All!

The Society wishes a great christmas to everyone who’s helped and supported us this year (and food poisoning to all those fuckwits we banned). Cola, Ama and myself would like to say special thanks to those guys who became members of The Society to help create something really worthwhile – Pil, Shooter, Kairis, Fug, Bob, Ratty, Roxy, and The Okinawa-World Mercenaries will live forever in legend!
Hopefully the server will be empty on the big day because you’ll all be doing real-life stuff with your nearest and dearest, but if you’re desperate to avoid the Queen’s speech you can come and deliver your own xmas message using a festive spade :D
And finally, a brief reminder – the last saturday of the month is coming which as promised will become Septic Saturday, with yank weapons replacing our traditional British hardware for the day. See you there!
1 Hour War Tournament Results

Yesterday war tournament proved incredibly popular, with the server packed out throughout all three battles – even The Society’s own members were struggling to get a space on the server! The maps chosen for the wars (Feldfeuer, Tempest and Enemy) were superb and all three are now being considered for regular spots on our rotation.
Throughout the tournament there were a number of strong individual and team performances, but ultimately only one winner. Community regular Tz romped to victory by claiming the highest points tally in each of the three wars. Nicely done!
Our thanks go to everyone who took part in the tournament for helping make it such a success.

Self Pres Birthday Blast!

This weekend the Society marks it’s first birthday (woohoo!) so there’s a whole bunch of stuff going on to celebrate.
First off, we’ve got a present for you guys in the form of SIX new maps! We’ll reveal all in the forums tomorrow so that you can download them ready for Sunday. There’s a few screenies below to tempt your taste buds :D
Our second treat: On Sunday we’ll be running three 60 minute long “wars”. Player scores will be tracked across all three, and the player with the best aggregate score (based upon caps as well as kills) will be named our ultimate warrior! Starting times will be published in the forums on Saturday.
We can also announce that The Self Preservation Society’s server has been booked for the whole of 2008. Amaterasu has joined me and Pepper as our third partner-in-crime, and brings techie/waypoint skills to the table as well as his wallet ;)
Of course, the most important thing about our birthday is the cracking excuse it gives us to get beveraged (bring your own beer) :D Happy birthday to us!
Thanksgiving Special

Thursday 22nd November is Thanksgiving over in the USA, and while that doesn’t actually mean much to us Brits it does seem like a jolly good excuse to stick American weapons on the server for a day. Our traditional Enfields and Brens will return on Friday, so make the most of the BAR-wielding-maniac goodness while it lasts.
We’ll be switching to the yank weapons on all maps, including the traditional British strongholds of Flash and Caen. Happy turkey day!
